  • Outboard motor Mount

I have a 2007 Argo Avenger with the Argo outboard motor mount that mounts off to the side of center. Anyone using a long shaft outboard on this mount? If you are, is the prop getting deep enough for good propulsion? I have an electric trolling motor that I use for smaller ponds but I want a gas outboard for the bigger ones. I tried a long shaft 3 hp Mercury outboard on it but the prop isn't deep enough for good push.
    Any suggestions?

That's only 2 inches longer than the motor I have now. I need to get the motor about 6 inches deeper. I'm thinking about making up an outboard motor mount that will fit in the hitch receiver.
      Anybody using this setup?

Sounds like the Avenger tub must be pretty tall. That motors cavitation plate is even with the bottom of my Conquest.

I just returned from Canada on a fishing trip and used this setup extensively. Loaded up, and with me in back (son in front) the argo sat flat in water. I have an outboard motor mounted off the receiver. On dry ground it is a couple inches off the ground when in the down position. It worked GREAT! I was amazed. I pushed it with a 3hp evinrude ('56) with the old egg beater style prop and it was flawless. Other argo in group had prop below tire level and it worked fine (no better) but he had to watch for ledges, etc as I could just wait til i felt the tires touch. I won't change a thing. I'll eventually post a pic of it here but can't on my work computer.

I have my mount welded, now I just have to add the plywood. I'm hoping to give it a test run soon.
