  • Loose steering disc on left side of admiral transmission.

Loose steering disc on left side of admiral transmission, about 1/8'' play and the one on the right side has no play is this normal.

If I understand it correctly, those discs are just breaking discs as the transmission does the steering on the HDi's, but I could be wrong. You probably checked it but the main bolt that holds the disc on may have come loose. If it is tight, then I'd check for bearing failure. (??)

The reason this thread caught my eye is that on my avenger (2005) there are 5 bolts that hold the disc on and a couple of years ago they worked loose, I had the same 1/8 or so of play on the one side. Took me a while to figure out what it was. Must be a Yellowknife thing!

I just checked my admiral tranny, and I have about 1/32 to 1/16 play on each side. The play is about equal, and not being a mechanic, I am guessing that this is correct. Hope this helps.
