New to Argos and forum! Looks like a great forum. I am buying a used 1997 Argo conquest.
It seems to run like a top. Its dry, at least we had it in water for about 10 minutes and I lifted the "floorboards" and it appeared dry.
Other than buying used, anything can happen, is there anything else I should be looking for?
it seems to brake/ steer great.
Sorry for the lame question but I've never been around these machines before.
    Thanks in advance!

Congrats on your new future ride, and welcome to the World! If the thing floats, steers and brakes good, and drives straight, it does't get to much better than that. You could take it to an argo dealer, and have him check, bearings, chain, tranny etc. Also, tire presure, + or - will help if it wants to pull one way or another. Enjoy your new ride!

Welcome to the best 6x6 site ever.To check your wheel bearings you can jack your machine up getting all wheel of the ground to see if you have any slack in your axles.Keep your chains adjusted and lubed regularly and enjoy the ride.

Thanks....its an older machine...but it's always been dealer maintained. Yup, it brakes and steers just fine. I'm pumped to get it home!

I just bought a used Conquest too, I understand your confusion. I got all the manuals I could find and I spent my evenings going through everything on the unit. I recommend you do too. Change all the fluids and filters. Check and lube the chains, inspect the tentioners, breaks and clutch, lube all the bearing, on my conquest the grease fittings in the engine compartment were a pain to get to, exspecially the one behind the battery and transmission. Make sure the chains are tight and your bearings are good. Adjust the valve clearance on the Kawasaki motor. Check all the tires. If you can't find the manuals, send me an email 'WestcottP@comcast.net' and I'll send you the files. What I did is I took the maintenance schedule and did it all reguardless of hours, buying it used I had no idea what was and wasn't done, so I did it all. The machine runs awsome, and I have a high degree of confidence in it. Word of advice, the machine will start in any gear, make it a habit to put it in nuetral first, and never let anyone stand in fount or behind the machine when you start it. I started mine in my garage, it was in reverse, the throtle cable was stuck, it screamed to life and shoot out the door, luckily no damage or injury to people.

I bought my conquest from the original owner, and he had it dealer maintained too, but you never know. If you were the young guy greasing the fittings, you just might deceide to skip the fitting you can't reach easily. Good help is hard to find.
