  • Kicker Motor Mount

    Hey All,

I am new here and am really enjoying the forum.
I have a 1997 Response 8x8 that I have had since new with a 3hp '65 Johnson as an outboard that my father has had since new.

Unfortunately, the old 3hp is just getting old and tired and I will be upgrading to a 2003 Merc 4 Stroke 4hp.

The old johnson was short shaft so I had built a bracket that comes off of the bottom receiver and made a receiver for the top at the stock transom mount. The 4 hp is a short shaft as well but it seems to be shorter than the old short shaft.

I see a few of you have put kicker motor mounts onto your machines, does anyone have any advice on doing so?

I do not want to buy a long shaft as my motor is also used on a small jon boat I used on small lakes and it is nice to be careless and not care about rocks or bottom.

    Thanks in advance,
    TW

Hello and welcome,a Responce 8 wheeler nice machine,a four hp 4 stroke is a great choice for that machine and I wouldn't buy a long shaft either,I also use my outboard on my small fishing boat at the cottage so why dedicate a long shaft,I have used a kicker off the hitch for a long time and very pleased, with the kicker you can get the motor in deep enough to all but eliminate cavitation,Iam working on the next generation which will have a kicker mounted on a electric jack plate so I can leave the motor in the down position and be able to pick it up high enough to never get in trouble, and the next motor will be a four stroker like yours so I can make a connection to the Argo fuel tank eliminating the need to carry a tank.Cheers NCT
