Just bought a 1985 Argo 8x8, kept stalling and when it ran, it pulled to the right. I noticed hose was disconnected and asked previous owner why, he told me it was to heat the cab; he unhooked it, didn't want the extra heat. Also told me he had to bleed the brakes when they overheat (just what you need to do).... some lessons... changed the plugs, fuel filter, checked fuel pump, put new gas, still stalling... took it to mechanic friend... here are the lessons: mechanic told me hose is actually to run air from fan to callipers to cool the brakes, not a heater hose! reconnected hose immediately! stalling occured because of sludge build up in bottom of tank (gunk was plugging initial hose from tank). I was at a loss before I took it to my friend. I was gonna pull the carb and clean it (probably still will). My lesson is don't believe half of the BS from people trying to sell you something. Brakes are overheating because of lack of air to brakes, shouldn't have to bleed the brakes all the time, even if it is an old argo. We are still working on it, but I thought this info would be useful to people that are just getting into this. Any of you argo owners out there that have picked up little tidbits and want to share, please do; I would appreciate it, as collective knowledge can really help those of us new to the "Argo club"! :-)

On the same learning curve with a 2006 Frontier 6x6, but due to this great web site I had a heads up to possible issues before we got the lil' beastie'. I have upgraded the cooling to the engine and on the final leg of installing a factory duct cooling to the disk brakes ,just have to fab up a way to mount/ hold it in place where there is no factory mounting tabs .... Next issue it the idle RPMs seem to be high at time so on the fence as to what can be done to "fix" this with the factory sealed carb or to buy an adjustable carb while they are still available ....and of coarse a set of ADAIR Tracks

I have owned 2 argo's.The first was a 98 vangaurd,Great machine never had a problem with it.The second one is an 88 model that i am building for my stepson Brandon. The problem with this one is the axles and sprockets are no longer available. To fix this you have to have new axles and sprockets made or up grade to the newer splined axles that where put in the 89 and above models.Either way it can get very expensive.Hope this helps.sigpic
