  • gas smell

Good morning guys! I was just wanting to know ifs its common to smell like gas after a ride? The Argo runs perfect aside from having to give the throttle a little blip to idol down in order to change gears. I also might add I use an enclosure.
    Much thanks!

Thanks NCT! I think I know why...stupid me sat and let the Argo warm up, and even although had the door opened all I could smell is gas smell which I hate! The next time I'll push it outside and then start it!!! By the way it has a 17hp kohler which runs like a top!
Thanks again NCT for the quick reply!!!

Your machine should have a vented tank, so in warmer weather you would get a gas smell in your enclosure, I believe.
Bumping the throttle to idle down is a common thing, I do that with both of my Conquests too.

Thanks RD that's good to know, and probably a stupid question, but how do I know it is a vented tank. I think it was exhaust but??? I haven't had it out since yesterday, The wife said she could smell a little, but not much. When we finished our ride, which was a good hr+ she didn't smell like gas...me on the other hand did. That's why I think it was sitting in it while it warmed up?
            Thanks for the reply

Maybe I worded that a little strange, what I mean is that it IS a vented tank, if it wasn't, you would draw a vaccum in the tank and your engine would eventually starve for gas and stall. I wonder how a gas smell could stick with you for that long if you were just in an area with a little vapor. Sounds like you fueled up and spilled some on your hands/shoes, ect, or something like that. I'm not one to judge though, I probably smell like gas most of the time

Some machines just have a vented gas cap, others have a tubing line from the gas fill line run through the body to tha back of the machine

Did you consider the location of your exhaust????? Are you riding with a canopy???? When I got my 02 conquest the person before me modified the exhaust and I was getting fumes back inside the canopy. I put the exhaust back to the orginal way and no longer have that smell.
Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.

I went out tonight and just checked it out and I can just smell a whiff now and then. I believe its because its an older model. I was wondering if I could get a new cap, one like on a 4 wheeler gas tank?? Its so little like I said, my wife could hardly smell anything! I think I'm just a little over sensitive?
                  Thanks again guys!
