  • 24" Frontier tires on my conquest. Excellent in water

Hit a GPS verified 3.5 MPH today...against the wind. Will confidently take them onto the Fox River with my 50lb thrust MinnKota. With both going at the same time I would feel secure. The old Runamuks would only hit 1.9 to 2.0 MPH verified. Best investment yet.

did you have any problems with getting tyres of uneven diameter?

I have read another thread where some had to be sent back because they were larger than 24"

It's a 97 and I had to order "small as you can find" from Adair. I ended up with one left over that will work on the last wheel of either side. Most of mine were 74-75" circumference. No two tires were exactly the same. You can always order the 22" version. I would imagine they will perform similarly in the water. The cups of the paddles are so much better than the Runamuk design. I do have an entire set of new runamuks on the shelf for my 18 plastic tracks. For this winter I am trying a fellow members idea of using small 3" strips of rubber conveyor belt every couple of tracks to improve grip on paved surfaces in the winter.

I did notice that most of the tires are "out of round".

I have kind of a Love/Hate relationship with my 24" Frontiers. I may have been the first to try mounting them on a Conquest (I could find no info on it at the time). I ordered 2, just as a test and had no problem putting them on, of course I just happened to try them on a "back" set of axles. My back axles also happen to have the largest C-C, so off I went and ordered 6 more, lol. After weeks of misshaps, I finally got to try them.............. Unbelievable, some are big, some are small, some are round some are not. It took me hours to get them on in such a way that they didn't rub. Getting them in line, smallest to biggest, and then turning them to see where the High spots rubbed together, pulling one off and giving it a half turn so the Peakes didn't come together at the same time. Finally got it right, but it took a while. Since then, 5 or 6 local friends here have also switched over, similar stories from each, but I only one or two tires have ever been just outright too big to fit anywhere. Now that mine have worn down a bit, it's not so critical to get them in just the right place.

I read all your posts before I bit the bullet and ordered them. Then when I received them I inflated all of them to 4 psi and started measuring circumference with a string and tape measure. I only had to do one wheel swap and one "peak interference clock rotation"<----New terminology/nomenclature for 24 inch Frontier fitting...LOL!!!! I gotta tell ya It's all love love over here. No rubbing at all and I put on 25 miles with my daughter this weekend.

perhaps their quality control is improving?

It's nice to know that their poor QA is reflected by the price... NOT!

74" to 75" circumference would be nice.these used ones were 75" to 76.5" and were real tight.

I love that 24" tire. It's an excllent swimmer, provides a very soft ride, it's excellent in swamp and tree conditions and reasonably good in the mud if you keep them spinning.

They do not swim at all in reverse, but if you swap the 3rd tire back side for side, you will have the tread reversed. This will allow you some ability to swim backwards.
The Frontiers are a great tire for the conditions that I ride in, but due to the low tire pressures required to make them fit, they are susceptible to sidewall damage. When wiggling between trees, it's not hard to smoooosh a tire sidewall into it's own rim, potentially slicing the sidewall open.

I was pretty lucky, mine where all from 73" to 75" at 4psi. I have mine set to 3.5 atm and they have just enough room not to hit each other. Went riding near Russriders house this past week end and boy, what a difference. All my tires are oriented for forward swimming, so much better then my 22" Rawhides. Swimming in reverse is awful, so I will switch the #3 tires. Should not be a problem as they are both the same size.
