  • Need a new winch

    Hey guys,

I my current winch is just not cutting it anymore. Looking for suggestions on a replacement. I'm not sure exactly what winch is on it as most of the label is gone and whats left is in french. I don't speak french.

Oh, I forgot to mention, this is for my 2000 Conquest 8x8.

HA HA HA HA, Yeah Dan, try a new battery, but if that is not the issue, Harbor Freight has a great 3000lb winch made by Badlands 3000 lb. Electric ATV/UTV Winch with Automatic Load-Holding Brake. I bought one and put it on my MaxII, and it rocked. Cbass has the same one on his wifes MaxII. It recovers quickly and also has an additional 12ft wire remote that can be used outside of the machine. It also features an automatic brake. The 3000lb Badlands winch would be great for your Conquest.

Is synthetic rope all that I hear. Whats the durability and life spand of synthetic rope? Looks like I need to do some research!

I second the vote for the warn. Yes they do cost a little more, but I think the quality and if you should ever need it,parts are more common to come by. I have used warn winches on my atv's, and real trucks for years and so far they have never let me down. I also would look into the synthetic rope for the weight savings and the safety factor. There is a little more upkeep to the rope but I think it is worth it.

Synthetic is all I use. I love it. There are a few draw backs though. When wet in the winter, it can freeze on the spool. You have to watch for abrasions....they usually come with a slip over sleeve for when it will touch a tree or a rock. Some brands also lack the UV protection, so sunlight exposure will shorten it's life.......or just use a winch cover and keep the sun off it. Never use a roller fairlead, use the aluminum ones. And a rubber stopper is a great idea too.

It has worked well with me, I usually change my winches yearly and sell my old one.

thanks Andy, I forgot all about using a pulley block. I will be upgrading from the orginal Hustler Ramsey winch that was made in the early 80's to something smaller and stronger. Of course it will be a lil further down the road than present, but i will definetely need one.

FYI I have had great luck with gorilla winches on my jeeps. I'm still using the 1996 antiquated one on my argo, so I'm not much help here though.
