  • Water in the Tub

    bought a 97 response...
runs fair....stalls abit if its been wet for a few days but no real issue.

just came in from having it in water.....was in for about an hour....pulled floor pans.....if i put machine on steep hill....about 2 inches of water collects in the rear. not so much that when i pulled the plugs it would run out on the level(i had to drive it around and slosh the water out.
my question.....is this considered a bad leak for a 97?...should it be repaired asap? I did just install a new bilge pump so not likely i'll sink lol.
The water was minial...enough so that the pump wouldnt pick any up.
One last dumbass question.....it did rain hard. like really hard for 2 days....could it be possable this water just came in thru leaks in the canopy or even possibly the luvers on the engine bonnet?

like i say, just new to these machines....and wondering if i should be striving for a 100% TIGHT machine.

do ya'all use argo grease or just any high quality grease on the chains and grease fittings i see?

    Thanks muchly i advance.

That's not too much water. A lot of machines will leak some when they get just a little wear in the bearings. For an hour, that's not bad. Just keep an eye on it and if it gets worse, start saving up to replace the bearings.

For the grease, that is up to you. You can use a good quality marine grease. I like to use lucas grease from NAPA but it's just a personal preference.

I would be happy to only have an inch of water in mine after an hour in the water. That's not bad at all.

just rember that the chains in the front left corner under the drive belt can throw water up on the cluch to the point it wont want to drive. It is easily recomendable by putting a pump up there... but you were going to do that already... Good luck
