  • Chain question

First off how do you adjust the slack in the front wheel chains? On my back chains the bottom of the chains are tight but the top side has slack, is this normal? When they chains start getting stretched do you remove links or just replace them? When you replace the chains must you replace all the sprockets? I know that chains and sprockets on dirt bikes run in together and if you put a new chain on old sprockets the chain tends to eat up the old sprocket.

My machine is a 2000 Argo Conquest 8x8 with 68 hours.

To my knowledge there is no adjustment for the front chains, just replace them. The sprockets should be ok as long as they have a small flat on the end and don't come right to a point.

As Gregg said, no adjusters for the front chains, it's too short of a run.
It's not uncommon to have tension on one side (top or bottom).
I don't remove links unless I have too (Trail Fix). As the chain stretches, the pitch changes, increasing wear on sprockets.
You don't have to replace the sprockets, and when the sprockets do get to the point where they are "worn out", they can be swapped from one side of the machine to the other, this will "reverse" their direction of rotation, and you can get many more hours out of them.

68hrs is nothing, you shouldn't have to replace chains yet. maybe the front chains, but I can't imagine needing to do the rest of them already.

My chains look great and I make sure my machine is maintained. For chain lube I switched over to Corrision X HD and it rocks!!!! It does not sling off, or wash off and it penitrates all through the links.

            Crowhater:
Its not unusual for an Argo to have some front chain sag, especially when sitting on the ground. I noted that on my machine a couple years ago, but when I got the machine off the ground the slack went away. Chain dynamics.
If your chains have stretched, I would just replace the fronts.

you can order it direct or buy it on Ebay, I love the stuff and have used it for years on my airboat and guns. For my guns and other stuff I use the Corrision-X in the red can, not the HD.
