  • How to remove muffler from the body?

Ok this seems really obvious but I just want to check before I rip a chunk out of the body by mistake. I've taken off the three nuts on the inside of the body that seem to hold the muffler on but it only moves 1/8 inch or so. Is there something else holding it in or do I need to just smack it harder?

I though I could help maybe but then I remember thinking your machine had the side exhaust. Well the rear exits has some straps/bands on the outside. The metal sheild is rivited on and 4 bolts on top. Could be alot differant though but hopefully helped you with an idea.

Yeah, side exhaust. There are some standoffs between the shield and the body but I don't see any rivets or anything holding them to the body, unless they are between the upper and lower shells, and then you couldn't get to them?

Just looked closer at my exhaust on the 225 with rear exit and you have to split the upper and lower bodies to remove the heat sheild. Unless you can get your arm or something up in there.

I've replaced a muffler on my machine (right, side mounted) and all I had to do was remove the 5 interior bolts and loosen the band that wraps around the muffler outside the tub and holds the muffler to the heat shield.
I've never removed the heat shield but so I'm not sure if any part of it is sandwiched between the upper and lower parts but I do believe there is a carriage bolt that runs through the body, into the interior at the top of the arch of the heat shield.

Alright I'm a dumba$$ I didn't realize that clamp was holding the muffler to the heat shield. Muffler comes right out when you take that off
