I have a 252 Colt and a 295 Wolf the Colt is newer as it has the channel frame and bigger chain along with the T-20 trans and the body hasn't been beat to death. The Wolf has the older angle frame, smaller chain and a Baker Hill trans, and I've patched the heck out of the body. I'd like to sell one to pay for the refurb of the other. The only thing going for the Wolf is electric start. Any thoughts as to why keep one over the other?

I don't think you have a Wild Wolf, but a ST295. Wild Wolf's would have a similar frame as your Colt and a T-20.
If it were me, I would be keeping the colt over a first generation machine regardless of condition. An ST/300/D is a first generation Attex. It is smaller, the frame isn't as strong as a later model machine, it uses a Baker Hill transmission compared to the much more common T-20 and there is pretty much no part interchangeability between the first generation machine compared to the later model Attexes. All Attexes are cool machines, but I personally would stick with a later model T-20 machine for a trail machine."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

I had at least 3 of these machines, the 297 was the earlier with the 5000 trans that had a weak mainshaft that I broke,fixed,broke,fixed and sold. The 2 300's were decent nimble light machines weighing about 400lbs and had the 300cc jlo (bored out 297 and will still stay L297 on it) and the 7000 trans which had a larger diameter main shaft, the problems I had with either trans was on long trail rides the drive/brake discs would heat up and would lose brakes or drive. Left stranded about 10 miles from camp (trailwise) after drive heated up and boiled the grease on the planetary gears.
There was also a 6000 trans that I assume was the racing version with no reverse and larger mainshaft. Just a thought towards which way I would go.sigpic

Jim, I had the same trouble with the grease in the planetary gears getting super hot and dripping out and losing a lot of the braking because of it. I had mine in my first racer. The 6000 Baker Hill had the same 1" diameter main shaft as the 7000, but the 6000 didn't have reverse. I believe there were two versions of both the 6000 and 7000 Baker Hill. The "R" version had 15 tooth sprockets (for more top end speed) and all the others had 13 tooth. The 6000 was a forward only and the 7000 had reverse. The 6000 was popular with the racers because it weighed less since it didn't have reverse and it didn't have the center cast aluminum case with the gears in it so the racers could mount their seats lower and farther back, thus lowering their center of gravity and making their machines a little more stable. The 5000 had forward and reverse as well, but you could only get it with 13 tooth sprockets and it had a 3/4" main shaft I believe."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"
