  • Gas Cap

So I was cleaning up the gas tank today off my colt and I don't know what to do with the gas cap. The seals are shot it looks like there's a gasket and some metal rings. It looks like there's 2 rivets holding it together. What should I do to make the cap seal up again?

Many of the old gas caps are a common size. New ones are available at NAPA and other auto parts stores.
Personally I don't like that style, it seems like the seals on the new caps only last a year or two....then you buy another. The last metal tank amphib I restored, I welded in a car fill tube and used the screw in cap.

Thanks for the quick reply I will have to check out the local auto parts stores. Since I won't be welding on any gas tanks.

Fuel tanks are easy to weld on....but if you are not sure what you are doing, just fill it with water. It is the gasoline fumes combined with air that are dangerous, and the water will displace them.
