hello Harleydice - I'm curious how you made out with the carb issue?? I have the same carb and have rebuilt it completely and changed the fuel lines and tried every thing I could read up on - it gets gas now but doesnt run for beans - I am not liking the Tilotson carbs and will likely replace it with a Mikuni - The float issue is not a problem in my opinion - I have another 6 wheeler ( Max ) it has the float styl carb and works great - ( The tilly drives you silly - another song from the 30's ?

Look at the pic of the carb posted earlier. Its not a hr31a
Where are the two fuel lines (left side) connected?
The one on the top left is a fuel return line and must go back to the tank.
With a hose connected to it and the other end in a container you should see fuel coming out of that fitting.
Dont plug it or connect it to the fuel line with a t fitting.

Don't put the gas tank near a fire pit! The fumes could still ignite, even with water in it. Take a look at the pickup inside the tank and clean it out. I had that problem with the tank in my Superchief. I took the strainer off the end and I put a nut on it instead to keep it weighed down at the bottom of the tank. Now after a couple tanks of fresh fuel through it, and a new fuel filter down the line, of course, the fuel system is problem free.

I used a hot water pressure washer with degreaser and dish soap to clean my fibro tank.
Its formed to the upper body so i couldnt take it out.
A garden hose connected to hot water will also work.
If you can take your tank out its easier. For steel tanks ...liners are available like this

Try some purple power degreaser, works fairly well on most things.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
                    Joe Camel never does that.

Glad to hear it worked. Do yourself a favor and save future headaches and replace the broken chain with a new one, don't try to repair an old rusty chain with a half link. I've cut corners like that in my past and it never worked out well for me.
