  • Stuck allen screws.

Anyone know how to get allen screws out of the aluminum hub that holds the axle in? One broken axle. Two old style wheels/hub.Two three stud rims and two four stud adapters. They threw bolted it.I do have another axle and aluminum bearing holder.I have the other four adapters.Would like to remove them all to restore it. THANKS.

I've had some luck removing things like this with a left handed drill bit. Get one smaller than the allen screw and turn it slow, they make some heat as they drill and will catch sometime and back the thing right out. Good luck.

      hi,
Although I am having trouble interpreting your particular situation . Here goes .
      A LH drill bit
Heat the bolt up a little at a time with a gas torch .Do this a few times allowing to cool between heating. The cycling of heat cold will help free up the bolt
Heat up the alloy housing [only a little ]
Warning ,heating any thing alloy may result in the threads being pulled out with the bolt .
      Helicoil the holes
Apply an anti seize to bolts and maybe some silicon on the shaft

If the Allen part of the screw is stripped out I beat a torx bin into them. Then try the above mentioned heating.

Eric, attempt to spray some good penetrating oil between the sprockets and the outer frame rail. Don't remember seeing any nuts on my 297, the first generation Attex manual is available in the manual section of the home page.
Here is one picture from it, if you have no luck with the penetrating oil like pb blaster you could grind the heads of the allens which should set hub free and then remove the bolts after.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
          Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.
