  • Attex brakes??

I have a question on the brakes these things have. The older model I looked at the other day had 2 big discs on the transmission shafts connected to a brake pedal on the floor. The 500 superchief that just went on ebay doesnt seem to have these.....does it have a brake somewhere else? Are the brakes adequate on these 2-stroke models?

    Thanks

The brakes on the SC are located on the front axles. There are two calipers up front that grab disks that are a part of front axle sprocket tube. I have both setups (assuming you're talking about the T-20 when you refer to the tranny on your machine). The big disks on the T-20 stop you very quickly (dangerously fast if you're not careful) and my experience with the disks up front is they are good for desending hills or switching direction on an incline but need to be used with the laterals if you need to stop in a hurry. I have heard from other owners that they work just as well. It may be that mine just need adjustment.

The first generation attex with the bakerhill uses disks on the planataries. 1 for brakes and other for drive. That is the only brake on them and it seems to work well. It can get tricky when your on an incline and need to take off carefully. Because of the neutral like effect between brake and drive with the sticks. I have heard the newer styles with the Parking Brakes on the front axles work good for that problem, being able to drag the brakes while under power.
