  • My son Torreys attex rebuild Thunderchief

Been working off and on it Great frame a little pitted but real straight. Opps painted frame forgot to weld small crack. Drill and weld. The tub needs a inside coat off abs where the stock muffler went thru. Got the t-20 output shaft from don today so tried to get t-20 apart for almost 3 hours had to pry it apart with screwdrivers. Had to hang it with a ratchet strap opposite side of clutch off the diamond shifter and pry with 4 screwdriver and let it fall on the attex cushion. Wow that 1 was hard. Some rust a few spots on the drum. But no scoring on the right hand side did not get to the left side yet.1 band is showing metal where no material is. Any comment or suggestion please. This is the 2nd t-20 I have tore apart so any help is ok

I suggest getting all four bands relined along with a new, complete seal kit. Get the bands relined at Transmission Crafters, get the full seal kit from RI/MuddOx.

I'm with Mike: best to get all the bands done at Transmission Crafters. If you get the kit from Matt, you know you've got all the right stuff, but you can get all the seals on line or at an auto parts store and o-rings at a hardware store and save a few bucks. You can go without center plate gaskets and use permatex ultra gray or the newer formula for ATF with no problems.

Thanks mike and don I had already ordered the seal kit months ago when I ordered the double oring plungers for the bottom of bruisers and torreys t-20 and have been waiting for the cash funds to come in for the output shaft and big thanks don for the part it will keep me more on budget. I have all the bearings except 1 inside. I think I can fit the t-20 bands into my budget but am going to come up short for the chain and I am still testing on the volar chain I purchased about 16 hours on it now and so far great chain crossing my fingers on it? I think I am going with the outside bearing spacers to stop the cantilever effect. 2 each axle

I am done early today time for 6x6 work. Thanks guys any concern about the rust on the drums

                  Yeah Jeff, looking good.

What color did you go with on the flanges and sprockets?

Finally got the t-20 apart the rest of the way. The clutch side has a bad annular bearing that has a click in it and the t-20 housing bushing is bad on that side only. Should I replace both bearings and both bushing? Just 1 side is bad. I will do a little video tomorrow of the problems

I would go ahead and replace both bearings while you are in there and only replace the bad bushing.
