  • Attex 208TT

I am new to not only this site but 6 wheels in general. I have just found a Attex 208 and it needs help, mainly in the axle department. It had been sitting for many years and 3 axles are frozen to the gears and in order to remove the mechanics they need to be removed.

I do have 2 new spares that I can use although I am looking for misc parts to make this repair and also put this unit back into service

Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Welcome to the site

Let me welcome you to the world of 6x6. This is the best site to get in touch with a great bunch of people, but this you will soon find out.

As far as stuck axels, i have included a link to some of the best penetrating oil in my opinion on the market. Have used it for years, works great. Spray it on and let it work. It is according to how bad they are stuck as to the amount of time to soak them. It may save you some parts. Get a knock hammer (dent puller) and try that after you have soaked it for a period of time. Also when you re-install the new parts use some anti-seize, they will not stick again. There are many suggestions as how to remove these item in the Attex forum area of this site. This is where you will find a wealth of information on these types of machines. Since i have a Argo the hardwear is a little different.

Parts for these machines can be found in the part section in the forum area. There are many people here with parts for these machines. If you are looking for something specific post it in the wanted section. Someone will give you a shout. Hope to see you around the site.

Hope this gets you started and good luck on the new machine.

my axles were in similar condition when i got my racer. i cut them out then used a press to shove the cut off stubs out of the sprocket tubes. i had tried everything else i could think of. it took around 10,000lb of force to break them loose, so i know looking back that nothing else would have worked in my case! here is a link to my post asking a lot of questions on the subject, and a lot of suggestions from the people who guided me through the rebuild of my machine http://www.6x6world.com/forums/attex...y-racer-5.html

        Thanks

Thanks guys and racerone3 that link was very helpful. After cutting out the axles did you upgrade to 1.25 as per whipper. I dont have a problem cutting out the axels although getting the new bearings is where I am at a loss. The spares that I have look to be 1 piece, and no collar in which to remove.

Racerone3 I am under taking exactly the project you under took 7 months ago and any help will be greatly appreciated

i thought the same thing on my outer bearings, but they were just so rusted that it was hard to see the collars. only the outers have the ecentric collars. the inners should have 2 set screws. i stuck with the stock axles... i'd love to have done whippers upgrade, but the budget hardly let me get the machine done as it was. i think attex only used 1 style of outer bearings (other than the really early 3/4 axle machines) but i know there were a few different types of inners. if you can post up some pics, we can probably help you out with part #'s. Don turned me on to motion industries for bearings, chain hardware... they have locations all over the country, ship FAST and are really good on price.
