Hey Guys does anyone know how to tell the difference between abs and poly I have more gouges and stuff that are to small to weld but still need attention! So I need to find donor abs to liquify to fill them in. Thanks guys talk to ya later!
if your just looking for donor material and don't care about color, the easy way to test samples is to dip them in acetone. poly won't be affected... ABS will start to get very soft after a few minutes. if you don't have straight acetone laying around, your wifes nail polish remover should do the trick

Abs will melt with acetone, Poly wont. Thats the easiest way to tell the differance. Put some acetome on a Q tip and rub the plastic with it in a spot un noticable. If its abs it will melt and leave a shiny resude spot. If its poly it wont do anything. If its painted poly it may take the paint off so watch for that, make sure its not painted. Hope that helps.
