  • Superchief Gas Tank

While looking at the parts to one of my superchiefs, I noticed something missing on the gas tank. On the top left side (port side) there is a hole for a tube (gas line) that goes into the tank. Looking at the other one I can see a tube that is in the bottom of the tank. I haven't taken the tank out on the one I'm driving to see what it looks like. Anyone out there have this tube or suggest what I can make?

I think you can get away with a regular fuel line. I'd use one of those metal fuel line connecters at the end inside the tank to help keep it on the tank's bottom.

What George described is a "clunk" pickup, I agree that it's the simplest and best for what you need. Great in planes, Off-road, anywhere there isn't a constant bottom for the fuel tank. I bet the factory setup was about the same, they may have had a filter on the end but your running an in-line anyway, right? I would use Neoprene line since it's more flexible. I'm no expert on these pickups, but what I have set up, I leave enough line for it to sit just beyond the middle of the bottom, and so it can move side to side with the fuel as well as front to back. The challenge will be getting a good seal where the line passes through the tank, you may need to find a rubber grommet that fits the fuel-line you use tightly, (don't forget it will be tighter once installed) and you may need to re-size the hole in the tank for the grommet. Of course if your lucky the tubing you use will be a tight fit on it's own, I never seem to get those breaks, though!
