  • Got a 6x6!!!

Bought a 77 Superchief over the weekend. It is in good condition and runs great after I cleaned the carb. I will post some pictures once I figure out how to re size them.

Can anyone tell me the proper belt for this? I have seen that a Gates or Napa 6096 should be correct and also possibly a Dayco HP3012 or Max 1078. Are any or all these correct?

I am sure I will have many more questions as I become familiar with my new toy.

    Welcome to the club DT!

A gates 6096 will work, if you can find one. I'm pretty sure your Dayco Max number is correct, as well. Good luck!

Wow, that is one of the nicest Superchiefs I've ever seen. Does it have one of those great barn find stories behind it?

I found it via the text ads on Richard's site. The guy has owned it for the last 17 years and only road it in the winter. It was raining when I met him to pick it up and he said he thought it was the first time it had been in the rain since he had it. He really had sellers regret after we made the deal. He said if I ever want to sell it that he would like first chance on it.

Other than cleaning the carb, greasing and oiling everything it was ready to ride. I did reverse the tires so it would swim better.

Thanks everyone!!! It has a few scratches and dings but it really is in good condition.

Right now I am trying to fix a water leak around the exhaust. It appears to be the only place it takes on water. I assume that there should be a gasket or something to seal it to the outside of the hull. If the gasket is gone or damaged can I use high temperature silicone to seal it?

I used the red high temp on my max and it worked good if you don't have alot of movement.I also use a caulking called np1,This is the best caulking i have ever seen. You can get it at a fastener supply or roofing supply.
