  • Cooling question - 77 Super Chief

Should there be any type of duct directing the air from the fan shroud toward the vent in the top of the engine cover? The end of my fan shroud is just open to the engine compartment.

There is nothing connected to the fan shroud so it appears that most of the hot air gets pushed back into the engine compartment instead of out the vent.

Would it hurt to build a duct so that all (or most) of the air gets pushed out the vent? Any suggestions or pictures as to how to do this?

    Thanks
    Jim

    Sounds Good!

What engine do you have in the Chief?

I am just learning about these Attex sleds.

The engine cover does/did have duct work on both vents to draw cool air in and send hot air out. I've often found the duct work missing. Probably a result of them all being 30 years old.

I'll see if I can get a picture up later today.

On a related note, the Chaps do tend to run warm. I switched over to CDI ignition with help from Don to limit the effects of the heat on performance.

We'll have to wait until Wednesday. The Poly cover I have handy is missing both. Maybe another member can snap one before then.

George, that poly cover that I got from you might have it. The next time I'm out I'll have to check and snap a pic.

This is my first time posting a pic so I hope this works.....this is (what I believe to be anyway) the factory ductwork on a '78 superchief.

Tango...Thanks!!!! That is exactly what I needed to see. I had no idea what it was supposed to look like. My cover only has the screens in place but no duct.

It looks something that would be easy to make...even with my limited fabricating abilities.

                  Thanks Again!!

You can put the same thing on the intake side too. That'll get the cool air from outside the engine compartment.
