  • Hot Spot In Exhaust

While riding yesterday after my throttle cable froze up with the throttle stuck more than half way open i noticed a orange spot glowing on my exhaust where the exhaust wrap rubbed off about the size of a quarter. I am going to put new plugs in. Should i be concerned is it running lean. It was the pipe coming from the front cylinder. Besides that it runs fine after it is warms up. IT WAS IDLING FINE FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES BEFORE NO HOT SPOT

Exhaust temps can run 1200 degrees. Usually you read the plug to decide mixture, unless you have exhaust gas temp sensor. Exhaust wrap will keep the heat in the pipe also. Guess it was running hard with stuck throttle..

was the hot spot at a bend, or directly across from the exhaust port exit?

        hot spot

the hot spot is up about "5 to "5 1/2 above the first bend past the exhaust port possibly where it might be welded together i would have to unwrap it to see. I will put a pic on here in a few hours when the wife gets home with the phone

Jeff - my guess would be that there is something in the pipe at that point thats holding heat. Thats really the only reason for a spot to develop on a straight portion of pipe.

i think i will take the exhaust off and see what is inside. tomorrows project just to be sure and safe. GOOD IDEA i will also shove a mag lite and plug the end and check for exhaust leaks in the dark

                  Probably Right

                    Everything Looks Fine

Everything looks fine inside the pipe no blockage. Ran it today ran fine. Probably was just because the exhaust wrap rubbed of there. I will try run this week in the dark maybe rewrap the exhaust in that spot. THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK
