  • Identifying an old attex

I found an old attex sitting in the weeds. No motor. Transmission is there. The body is fair although I couldn't see the frame.Tires are fair.A plate on transmission said the engine was a 246cc. What have I found? Is it a 208 model? Most everything appears to be there eccept the engine. Is it worth buying and if so what is it worth?

    Hey Joe,
This might help you ID the machine.

Does it have a baker hill trans with the exhaust exit on the left rear corner or out the upper body in the rear on the 208tt. The 208tt was the only model that had a rear exit exhaust. It you have a t-20 then the exhaust would be on the right between middle and rear tires. If there is a rib along the body above the seam then it is a poly body and if its flat on the side about the body seam then its abs plastic. Not sure what the 246 would be? Could that be a measurement of oil capacity or something? Are you sure thats engine? Hopefully the ID pages will help you out.

As far as "is it worth buying" yes if its cheap and you can modify a new engine into it. If you are feel that may be to much of a challenge then you might want to consider finding a whole machine. New engine and matching clutch can add up to a lot of money unless you can hunt down some good cheap used ones.

Good luck with ID it. If you figure it out let me know, Im interested it what it is. Post some pictures if you can. There is a bunch of us attex nutz that can pick it apart and ID it with a few pictures of the body and drive components.

I do remember the exhaust was on the side near the rear not out the back.

Joe if you decide you are not interested, please let me know. I am looking for a decent body for an Attex project I am working on. Thanks and good luck.

you have a 1st generation machine made before '71 then. If the transmission was a simple shaft. Its a 6000 series and you dont have reverse. That is one used more for racing because its lighter. If there is a gear box in between the rotors, then you have a 5000 or hopefully 7000. Some R transmissions had 22 teeth sprockets instead of the standard 18t. Other then that the models where just engine related.

Up front on the sides it stated the model as a sticker. if its painted it may be hard to tell. I sanded my machine down and you can always see where the dark sticker reacted with time on the machine. Not sure if its because its dark and the sun baked the plastic or if the plastic just didnt get weathered under the sticker but if it dont say, look real close at different angles. You may be able to find out what it was.

The machine is located about 20 miles from me.When I get a chance I'll go over and look at it more closely and take some pictures. Jay I'm probably not interested because I have no experence rebuilding an aatv and don't know what I'm doing. Let me check it out a little closer for you. I don't want you to drive all the way from West Virginia for nothing. Joe
