I'm a bit of an optimist. I run a G50B in the RIM (as little as I *USE* the RIM) and I've NEVER had a problem with the machine as a direct result of the engine. Of course, the RIM is geared a bit lower than the Superchief, but they were originally intended to be trail machines. I'm sure the Attex racers benefited from the Chaparrals on the track, but I've really learned to love the engine in mine as a true lug-me-around powerplant.
Two strokes are, and always will be maligned as an unreliable, smoky, noise alternative to lawn mower engines. The RIM is still running the same set of points and condensors that came with it, as far as I know. I've changed plugs in it once since I got it in '05 (as a matter of course, not because it really needed them...). So, you've got three trail machines (Max II, 980, SSF...right?). What's to say that you couldn't just throw the Chap' in it and see how you like it? If you decide you don't, what's the swap over to a Vanny going to take; a weekend or two? To my knowledge, nobody's running 1 1/4" axles in an otherwise stock Superchief....
I say go for it. There are lots of G50B folks out there that can get it tuned in just right for a trail machine.
$20 says you can't do a wheelie.
