    Poly-skid plate

    Hello Folks; Would anyone know what pop rivets to use on a poly skid plate? I know I want sealed rivets, but all the ones I've found seem to have the standard size heads, I thought the bigger ones would be better! The ones I found doesn't say if they are any GOOD on plastic because I know some can pull through softer mat'l. Thanks again Brian!

    if you read this thread about hydromike's skidplate, he talks about the rivits that he used... steel shank, sealed. he got them from Recreative or the same place that they get them. i don't see where he mentioned size, but i'm sure if you sent him a PM you could get all the details. http://www.6x6world.com/forums/attex...hem-alive.html

      Skid plate dilemas;

      Hey Folks; Been trying to get a poly skid plate on my st300d for a couple of months now. Something else always took priority! So finally got to get started, wouldn't you know it 1/2 an hr. into it things are starting to bend and form my heat gun said NO more. So I called my friend to see if he had one I could borrow, he brought it over, and needless to say we killed that one in about an hr. So I went the machine shop I work at part time to see if my friend/boss had a heat gun, so he handed me this heat gun that looked like it could melt an iceberg. 220 volt / 750 degree comm. unit now that worked after I made a special extension cord, almost done now! Hopefully before the snow flies! Check in w/ pics soon! Have a Good one! Brian

        just for future reference, i've been using a propane torch tho heat/ bend/ mold poly, and it seems to work really well (and a lot faster)

          I'll agree with 'Race 100%. I've done a couple skid plates, and the heat gun got put aside right-quick. A small hand held propane torch for regular 1/4" HDPE works great, and I stepped up to acetylene for working with UHMW. You'll learn very quickly how to manage the burn/melt point, and it's satisfying to work with fire. Very satisfying. I like fire. OK, they're knocking on the door now; gotta run......

            Hey Folks; Thanks for the input, I tried the propane torch just out of desparation, it was working but not the way I thought it would. The bottom tub is sitting upside down on a dolly that I made for it, the propane torch didn't want to burn, being almost upside down! Yea, the regular heat was working slowly, but died. The comm. gun was much faster! Thanks again; Brian
