  • New to the world of 6x6's.

I recently did a little bartering and came out with this attex 6x6. I do not know much about it at all. It has a 440 kawasaki snowmobile engine that I know is not stock and a t20 case. The right front right axle is bent and wont keep the chain on but other than that its in pretty good shape. One small crack on the back of the machine near the engine air vents. It has been painted a few times and its chipping off so it looks ugly but it runs and moves and floats! Heres a few pics of it. I have $400 into this. Is that a fair price for what I got? 6x6.jpg6x6_2.jpg

I work 3rd shift so my plans are to tear into it tomorrow and check out the axle situation. All the chains and sprockets look ok. I'm thinking I'm going to need a new bearing for the axle that is bent but wont know until I tear it apart. My overall plans are to remove the 440 two stroke and repower it with a 20hp Vtwin diesel engine off from a standby gen set, put a bump bar around it with roll cage and windshield. I will probably end up painting it dark green and covering the seat in camo fabric. When converting it over from the two stroke, should I use a 520 chain and clutch or should I stick with a belt clutch to attack the engine to the tcase? What have you guys done when doing a foustroke conversion?

I am kinda in the same boat you are literally. I also have an original superchief that I am converting over to 4 stroke. The thing I hated about mine is the engine. While they haul ass they are also very noisy, vibrate a lot and not good at all for heat or crusing. I have dealt with the chain situation and it is #50 chain. If you are running a 4 chain set up make sure you replace the back chains because If you break one you are screwed and if you're doing about 30 or so when it breaks, you are out of control. I know this because I crashed mine into the neighbors fence the first time out. I got my chain at an industrial bearing store. It came in 10 ft boxes and it costed about $33 a box. It took around 14 feet to do the rears and if you buy a few extra links with 3 boxes you can do all of it. As far as a clutch, stick with the belt drive system thats on it and make sure you can find a clutch to adapt to this engine you are getting. If you just hook it directly there is a pretty good chance you will trash your T20 due to the shock load. To convert my machine over I am going to try using a 20 hp Onan boxer engine. I am going to set it in place first and make sure that rear cylinder will clear the body. Otherwise I am going to bolt it to the stock engine plate, extend a few wires to the front and be done with it. The Attex guys you will want to talk to is Don and George, they are very good for specifics. Otherwise thats about all I have and I will keep you posted on all the road blocks I run into.

great job on finding that attex running driving and floating with a T-20 for $400 thats an awesome deal mine was converted to an 18hp briggs and stratton vanguard before I got it they are a bit slower but much quieter and way more low end torque for climbing I am going to put a high rev kit in some day to get some more speed out of it good luck on the build a diesel would be pretty fun to have in that attex it would be unstoppable

Ok I got the axle out today. I have an old go kart axle that is 1" so I am going to take it to work and cut it to length and clean it up. Stop by the parts store in the morning and get two new bearings. Anybody know what kind of axle seal is used?
