  • Will 22's fit a 1st generation Attex?

I've got another little project that I'm restoring thanks to a tip from my good friend Don......thanks again, Don! It's a green 1st generation Attex 208TT. I plan on restoring it to pretty much factory condition with the exception of a 11 or 12HP Briggs in place of the factory 8HP Briggs and I might put some 22" Rawhide III's on K-lock wheels on it too.

I was just wondering if 22's would fit on a 1st generation machine like a 208TT, 297, or ST/300/D. I don't have the side exit muffler (mine is in the back) since it's a 208TT so clearance there wouldn't be an issue. If these fit I think the aggressive tread, super low ground pressure, and the large size for such a small machine would make this green 208TT quite the little monster. If someone wouldn't mind trying to bolt some up to their machine and maybe even snap a picture, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Hey How's it going? I have a 1st. gen. st300d and I had 22"x8" s on it Carlisle Chevrons treads not as aggresive as Rawhides, but shouldn't be a problem! Good Luck w/ the project! Brian

Hi Brian! Great to hear from you and thanks for the information. I'll get some pics up sometime of the project. It sounds like the 22" Rawhide III's should be able to clear. If there is any issue I can always air them down a bit since they'll be on K lock wheels.

I have the st300d, and 22s cut it real close for me. I had the side exhaust, but am working on that now. But yeah it still rubs slightly on some of the frame molding, just barely though. Once I get a proper low pressure tire gauge it should be fine. It sure cuts it close though.

What kind of 22" tires are you running on your machine? Also, you said it still rubs slightly on some of the frame moulding.......do you mean on the side of the tub or on the bottom of the fender wells? I plan on running 22x11x8 Goodyear Rawhide IIIs on K lock wheels around 2-3 PSI. If I can pull this off successfully, this little machine is going to be a beast.

If they rub on the inner sides of the tub you could probably remedy that by adding some spacers behind the wheels... but I don't know if you could heat & re-form the tub if it's the tread rubbing the underside of the body? What's the body of an older unit lilke that made from? Fiberglass or ABS? Not poly though, right?

Thanks for the suggestion. The body of older Attexes is ABS. I will most likely be making new axles, so I can just re drill them so the hubs sit farther away from the body if that is the case. As long as they clear the underside of the fender wells I should be in good shape.

Mine where the top of the wheels are, there are rectangles of molding that I think go around the metal part of the upper structure. If I inflated the tires properly with a low pressure gauge, I think I would be fine. It just barely rubs anyway.
