  • What did I buy ?

Well jost got back from purchasing 2 attex'x from a guy on craigs list. One in what seems like very good shape and a not so good parts ? one.

1st is the nice one, it has a t-20 trans and a chaparral g50b engine. Runs, moves, needs throttle cable

The second is a 400 chief (superchief ?) has a body band, roll bar, and a jlo twin and a t-20 trans.

any idea on what the first is and year ?

    thanks,
    scot

the first is a superchief. (you can find the serial # for both in the circled are in the attached pic... first 2 #'s indicate the year... you may need to sand the frame/ paint/ rust/ grease to see the #). i can tell you that machine #1 is not a '76.

    where are you located?

That first one is a 1977 or newer Superchief, which was one of the fastest AATVs that Attex made. The other one which you said is a Chief, would have an ABS body, a JLO 400, a different grille that is black with ridges molded in it, and a stripe going down the side of the body.......also the T-20 will have a disc brake on each side of it.

the chief needs some TLC, but I've seen a lot worse.

The body looks really nice on the Chief. Just clean all the dirt and grime off it, and a little bit at a time, get a clean rag and dip some acetone on it and wipe the body. The oxidation will instantly disappear! Then take some fine 500 grit sandpaper and wet sand it.......jump up to some 1000 git and wet sand it once more. Then wax it and that thing will shine better than new!

Scot, don't hate it, that's perfectly normal. It started for me when a friend told me he had a machine that would go thru my "swamp" (My ATV trails around a stream, till beavers moved in and raised the water level 8 feet.) A couple years later and I have 3 and a couple more bodies, and various parts, with no end in sight.

Pffft! Like 6x6 says. Perfectly normal. We usually expect folks to say it. Sometimes, it just takes a little while to come to the realization. For me, it hit me when someone asked me how many I had. I stopped, thought a bit, and then had to revisit the outbuildings in my mind to start counting what was actually out there. Some of us immediately take a defensive stance (me, for instance) when posed the question.

How many that RUN, or how many bodies do I have that are potential machines with a little more work?

What if I have a frame there, an engine there, a stack of tires there, a bucket of axles, etc. How many that run AND can be ridden at any time, or how many can I just jump in and ride after a half hour of repair or tinkering with a chain adjustment?

You're welcome here. Welcome to therapy. It's free.

                            Okay guys; define "normal".

Welcome to the obsession, Scot. It may or may not be "normal", but you've got lots of company and we all seem to get along pretty well.

I have to ask the boys for assistance when someone asks me how many machines are in stock at any given time- can't remember any more.
