Engine swap out

I'am looking at swapping out my jlo 440 2 stroke to a 4 stroke. Any idea's on what engine to use? This is an old 400 attex cheif that I'am swapping it out in and I only use it for running around in the pastures checking on horses so speed isn't really and issue, I want some that will have enough power to get the machine around and be dependable. Nothing worse being stranded out in a pasture. Any idea's will be helpful.

Hi sandman, you can probably go with a briggs 16-20 hp. I've never had a problem that wasn't caused by me. Very good motors .Good luck Mike

Engine swap out

Decided to go to a 4 stroke engine from a 2 stroke.. Any suggestions on how to build the motor mount? It's going in a 74 400 cheif.

A Briggs 18 HP will me a great changeover. They are reliable, lightweight, and available. You may also consider a Duromax 16HP, they are about a third of the price of the Briggs, again lightweight, but are a single cylinder vs the smoothness of a v twin.

6 chain or 4 chain /4 chain engines sit higher

I have a 4 chain and a 6, both repowered to Briggs. in both cases, I welded up a platform from angle iron and flat stock on top of the JLO mount to get the engine level. I suspect your machine is 4 chain. You should be able to get a pretty good Idea of what I did from these pictures
