Why make it either or type of thing. If i had the fab skills and equiptment, i would run steel from the frame to the body band right were the upper and lower tub seem is. This way you get extra support holding the tub up instead of pushing it down to sag like a body band roll bar alone. You also get the extra strength by tying it into the frame. I know i have seen someone do this before, i think hydromike. Maybe they will chime in.

i was also thinking that i have been looking at all the pictures on the site and i think i will have to draw something up, maybe a hoop that welds to the body band and two bars from the top of that back to the rear of the body band on the machine and maybe a cross bar between the hoop to hook my 5pt seat belt on and that welded to the frame

This is the old cage from my racer (for sale if anyone wants it) and this is the cage I replaced it with On the new cage, there are 2 holes just to the inside of the main hoop that bolt through the lower tub to help hold it up. I build race cars for a living and would rather have my cage, and seat attached to the frame, but for the speeds we run a body band mounted cage works just fine. I have seen plenty of roll overs at Ashtabula the last couple years and both designs have held up well. In most cases once the machine was righted it kept on racing.

All of my trail machines have cages built off the body bands and the ones that I've managed to turn over have done their job and been no worse for wear afterward.
