  • Super Chief Problems

Today I was going to ride but my machine is flooding and running like crap with very little power. I pulled the carb a milkuni vm34mm that only has maybe 4 hours run time since I bought it. inside looked new as I would expect. I'm getting spark at both plugs it will only start at times i did run it around the yard but it lacked power any tips?

I might add I bought the milkuni new and used it maybe 4 hours I cleaned the plugs that have only a few hours as well I did clean the inside of the machine last week. I checked to day for lose wires but could find none. My G50B is a point system with great compression on both cylinders

i will make a couple suggestions, as i know very little about the G50's other than alot of ppl like them. lol First id try changing your plugs...I'm sure you have a couple laying around that you can quickly throw in and try out. Its worth a shot, its easy to do. Second would be to check base settings on your carb. Being its NEW, it should be set at base settings?..however, its very well possible that it is not. Once again, i am unsure of much on your motor, so for base settings, i would either A.) check your old carb. B.) Check on here for a manual. C.) Ask the guru's about base line settings..

i MYSELF would point more towards carb settings, seeing as its "flooding" Sounds to me like maybe you got a chunk of seomthing stuck somewhere. if it Floods with engine off, id pull bowl and see whats up..something would be stuck under needle to prevent float from closing fully if thats the case. or you have a faulty float. If its only during running, id say that its set incorrectly.

However, i would highly suggest asking more ppl on the subject seeing as this is only a troubleshooting suggestion i would take to find the problem? Sorry, but i hope SOMETHING i've said helps bruce! lol

Check the compression. A healthy reading of 150/jug would be good.

Try gathering up the parts to convert to CDI. Right now there are stators and external coils on ebay. The flywheel and CDI box will take a little longer to find.

Was the machine running right the last time you drove it? If it was, and nothing's changed, I'd suspect something in the fuel delivery arena. Is the manual choke relasing completely? Are you running a good fuel filter? When it's "flooding", do you have fuel exiting through the overflow tubes on the Mikuni? I've had floats stick on brand new carburetors (silly, I know...) so I'd double check to see that the needle is shutting fuel off properly.

With a decent spark, your compression could be as low as 100-110 and it'll run. It won't have as much power as a fresher engine, but as long as the cylinders are within 10% or so of each other, things should be ok. Not to dismiss what George says (150 WOULD be good... ), but don't be dismayed if it's lower....

I used a G44B bottom end to fix my engine. The heads, jugs and pistons are smaller but the external shrouds are the same and so are the intake and exhaust manifolds.

              Here's an external coil.

The stator is not on ebay at the moment but I've seen a guy selling a few of them, NOS. I bought one a few weeks ago. I'll pm you if i see another come up. I'll do the same for the flywheel and CDI unit. I think HMike has been using a CDI box from another maker with success.

Thanks I have a lead on a strator plate and flywheel plate is void of points so it looks right I just don't know how to tell if the flywheel is correct both are from a g44b

I checked compression the best I could with a gauge that is older than I and does not hold the reading. I still had some pressue getting by the gauge but the reading I was getting was 120 with pressure leaking by so they should be in the 130 140 or more range on both cylinders Spark is great on both plugs so I have pulled the carb again how do I know if the choke is open all the way on a mikuni?

Here is the stator AND FLYWHEEL!!!!, on Ebay. It's been on here awhile. Sometimes on Ebay I look for alternate (wrong!!) spellings of items. Notice Chaparral is spelled Chapparall, so you will never find it in a search. Little ebay tip!!! $50 is a fair price too. All you'll need is a CDI box. GRAB IT!!

Ok I replaced both plugs that gave me back the power. the vm34mm Mikuni that is really a new carb with less than 4 hours on it is still flooding out the overflows .I have had it apart 5 times now even adjusted the float and still flooding? I did get lucky and bout a CDI flywheel and strator plate off a g44b for $50

5 times...and tis flooding still? holy balls. uhh...hmmm, well id start with checking float..Try pulling the float out, and set it in a cup of gas..does it float or sink?

Then i'd leave float out, and hold needle in carb and turn fuel on...when you push needle up into carb, does the fuel STOP or not? if not..i'd say that eitehr needle seal is bad, or the seal up inside the carb that the needle seats on is bad? Only other thing i can say is maybe the float is in upside down? i need to look your carb up and see what the internals look like so i can help ya trouble shoot also.

Floats are in right if not it won't let you close the bowl Mikuni has 2 floats My carb is the Mikuni Vm34 I hought it early last year and with working out of town it has very little use.

ok, so its SAME carb as my dad's then...ok...try this, once assembled, and fuel is on and running all over ground, try TAPPING on the carb with a screw driver handle.. Brisk little taps... just for hell of it bruce. My dad's carb STICKS once in a while, even though its CLEAN as a whistle.

Tap on the bowl area. This wont hurt the carb, just dont HAMMER on it. lol
