I am putting my Attex Thunder Chief back together. I ran into a problem putting the engine a 440 JLO back in. The T-20 has the 2 disk brake set up. The starter is hitting the rubber bushing on the engine mounting plate and its about a half inch from sitting flat on the engine mount. I am new to 6 wheelers and I have taken it completly apart. Everything lines up great to the transmission and it was working when I removed the engine. I spoke with a guy at Richards Relics and he said to maybe cut the rubber bushing in half to make clearance. I dont want to do this because I know it was mounted with a full bushing when I took it apart. Its got to be a simple solution. Thanks for any help

Ok..by the starter...the rubber bushing goes Underneath.. (it did on mine anyhow..so if im wrong..someone correct me..) Here's what yo do. You'll have one rubber between the mounting plate and the frame mount, and one Under the frame mount.. Up on the mounting plate it self, (this is what the motor bolts directly to) that square metal plate with the curled edges will mount down DIRECTLY against the mounting plate. Damn i need pictures...i suck at explaining.. lolI have officially caught the 6-wheel-sickness!!

I tried putting the rubber grommet on the bottom of the frame, but it was hitting the chain. I left it off after that and I could not use the square washer it was still to high. I just used a flat washer and the starter cleared. I dont know how to make it work. Will only using the one rubber grommet cause any problems with vibration.

No I did not turn the square spacer tabs up. I will try this on monday. The grommett that is hitting the chain is the one that is a litle bit wider than the round ones that go on the bottom of the engine mount. I took pictures when I took it apart, but of course I did not take any of the area under the starter. I just dont remember having a rubber grommett under the frame under the starter when I took it apart. I actually took 2 Attex's Chiefs apart. The other did not have the 400 JLO mounted. It did have the engine mount plate attached. I dont remember it having a rubber grommett under the frame under the starter area either. I know the one with the 440 JLO had a square spacer with tabs under the starter because I remember I could not get to the bolt and the engine had to be removed first. Thanks for your time in helping me. I really appreciate it. I will get it figured out.

Now guess what I dont have any spark at the plugs. The engine ran great before I took it out 4 months ago. I did wash the engine and I tried to be careful but I know some water and the cleaner called awesome got down inside the motor. I dont know much about this, but the lights work and the starter works fine. Somebody ran a wire from the red wire on the voltage regulator and I touched the wire to the engine mount and it sparked. I am pretty sure I have power in the wiring harness that plugs into the back of the engine. I dont know how to check a coil or if it has fire coming from the points. I connected a ground wire to the engine and that did not help either. I also unplugged the wiring harness and used the pull start and i still did not have a spark. I am not sure if that means anything.Last edited by kat266; 12-26-2011, 12:14 AM.

Yes thanks, I was surprised how fast it runs. I have got to do some adjusting on the shifting levers one side does not turn to easy to the left. It also has alot of play in the lever assembly on the frame. I have got to remove it and fix it. So far so good.
