  • Help Identify Attex Model

I came into possession of an Attex 6 wheeler. I am looking for what model it is. I believe it to be a 1972 as it has a metal gas tank and I learned that 1972 was the only year for that item. It is powered by a Rockwell JLO L340. I have not been able to locate in the literature that I have read on the various models, which model was powered with the L340. Does anyone know? Thanks.

A further look at a decal on the dash, which is all but obliterated, leads me to believe that the L340 must have replaced another engine. The decal refers to using SAE 30 in the crankcase. Obviously there must have been a 4 cycle engine in this 6 wheeler, since the L340 that is in it now is a 2 cycle engine. Still am unable to locate a VIN. It is not where they said it should be.

Hmmmm, does the Attex have a T-20 transmission or a Baker Hill transmission? Some pictures would definitely help. The steel gas tank makes me believe it's either a 1971 or 72.......second generation machine. I don't know if the JLO 340 was offered in any of these machines, although I could be mistaken. I think the JLO engines were the 295 and the 400. It could be possible that someone swapped it out at one time for the 340.

They all had steel gas tanks up to 73, and 72 was the first year for the t20 and the only year for the six chain set up with the t20, all the later models use only 4 chains.

        RE: Identify an Attex 6x6

Thanks to those who helped, but today I found my answer. As the old paint that someone had put on it was being removed, an impression of the old sticker was found that said my 6x6 was a 252 Colt. Thanks again.

          Re: Help Identify Attex

The last piece of the puzzle has fallen into place. I wrote that I learned that the unit was a 252 Colt. Today, I have finally found the serial number. It was not stamped into the top of the right rail six inches from the rear, but was instead stamped into that rail right on the end, underneath a battery tray. Totally not viewable without the battery tray being removed. It is now know that this unit is definitely a 1972 model. Later, upon completion of restoration, I will post some photos. Thanks again.
