  • Clear vinyl for a windshield?

I've been thinking of making a lexan windshield for my Max II and making a lightweight frame for a plastic tarp or vinyl fabric for a soft top. I stumbled upon some clear vinyl sheet and thought a lot of 4-wheeler enclosures as well as auto convertibles use it for the windows. I figure it'd be light enough and cheaper than Lexan and would work well enough as a windbreaker. Anyone else done this with clear vinyl?

If it is the standard 40 mil convertible top window vinyl I don't think I would use it for the front windshield just because of how soft it is. Even with it stretched on a frame you will eventually get some sagging and distortion that would probably get old looking through. Also, if you hit something with it you will either stretch / distort the vinyl or puncture it.

I would probably lean towards the lexan. Both are going to scratch easily but I would rather have the solid material up front. The vinyl would be perfect for the side / rear windows though.

Yah, vinyl windshields suck..theyll make ya sick from looking through them! lol Side windows are ok, but windshield area is best to be un-distorted...had one on my Kawasaki mule, THrew it out and bought a LExan one!
I have officially caught the 6-wheel-sickness!!

Get the lexan with margaurd, it wont scratch make sure you over size it a touch and if you have to sand the edges to get the right fit otherwise its to flexy.
