  • The Early Online AATV Days of the 90's & 2000's

I was just thinking about all the early online AATV sites that were out there in the late 90's/early 2000's. I remember all the stuff I learned, all the old machines that were being uncovered and I can't help but laugh about some of the stuff that went on. I know there are members on here that were part of the early online AATV craze and I thought we could use this thread to discuss some of those memories.

I remember the Voy Forums group for 6 wheelers, the Free 6 wheeler online classifieds, Attexatvs (which is now part of 6x6World ) and all the little sites that people were building dedicated to showcasing these cool machines that people were rediscovering with the birth of the Internet. I was quite young at the time and I remember around the turn of the century and into early 2000's sitting in study hall, the library, and the computer lab in high school reading about 6 wheelers and then going home and working on the first machine that I drove around with my friend. His grandfather gave my friend's older brother an early Max II with a blown up JLO 295. We got it going with an old Rotax single 2 stroke engine that we took out of an old golf cart. The addiction began there and has only gotten worse ever since.

Anyway, back on topic. Let's hear from all the folks that were on-board and remember those sites. Share some stories about the machines, the conversations, the rides, or anything else you might remember. I can recall folks like Lance, Hydromike, Don, George, Amphiman, and I'm sure many others that I can't think of off the top of my head being on these sites.

I remember Rob Sandera and Amphiman always getting into arguments on the Voy Forums about the Scrambler Gotcha prototype machine. He owed Amphiman money and Amphiman was going to go travel down to Rob Sandera's place and collect the money and he responded by saying he was going to have the state patrol arrest him if he came down to his house and have him psychiatrically evaluated. Rob Sandera would also talk about how he caught some FBI agents who were intoxicated, snooping around in his barn of 6 wheelers. Oh the memories and laughs. It looks like Mr. Sandera is now in the running for to be a US Presidential candidate for 2016......he didn't make the cut for 2012 though.

Here's the Free 6 wheeler classifieds from a web archive that I found. Some of you guys will remember these:

I remember some bits and pieces, but not in as much detail as you. Attexatv's did alot to get me inspired and back into the sport. The free 6 wheeler classified was a frequent read. Real happy with 6x6 world as a modern support of the sport.

Interesting story and seeing the old classifieds is cool.
For years i wanted a 6 wheeler and saw them at the sportsman show all the time but back in the 90s i spent all my spare time bass fishing in northern ontario.
Now that im older and have more time (less fishing) i started looking for an older 6 wheeler that i could fix and use around the property to collect firewood and have some fun with.
      I found the Bazooo
With help from 6x6world I learned more than I could imagine about how these things work.
After a year on this site I am hooked and now realize alot of the members have been for years.
Great to be a part of the new age of aatvs and see how it has evovled.

That's cool, JP. I haven't thought about Sandera's site in a long time. I met quite a few members through that site long before there was a 6x6world. I've always had good feelings about Rob's site because I found the McKay through his classifieds. Thanks for the post!
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.
