  • nh rules and rsa say i am a boat....

So. I am new to the whole 6x6 thing. Just got a max iv. Getting tracks next week. I was looking at requirments to reg my toy... thought it was a atv or even a aatv.... according to nh.... nope. Must weigh less than 1000 and be 50 inches or narrower... I am 57 according to mfg. Boat rules state that any vehicle in water ways is a boat. National boat laws say other states must honour my reg..... cool..... can't wait to get a ticket in maine while on snow covered trails with my boat....
    Please discuss....

I'm from maine and not really sure what the rules are in nh, but I registered my argo as a snowmobile and an atv with tracks. i think the law states no wheels are allowed to touch snowmobile trails. during the sno season. i think your all set as long as it has tracks

i live in nh, northern part on corrider 5 snowmobile trail. you can use your machine on any state trail that allows side by sides. youmust register it as an atv and have brake lights. in winter you can ride with tracks on any trail that will let you either by land owners permit or club permit. following the same rules as a snowmobile. most snowmobile clubs dont like tracked atvs because they are too wide and too slow. and cause a hazzard to the faster sleds. you can ride at jercho park. and the one across the river too in berlin, errol, milan area. you must register as boat and atv. and follow the laws of both. one while on land and when in water. contact your nearest game warden they are very helpful and friendly.

when dealing with ohrvs always go to a game warden or forrestry dept. ohrv is theirs and they will help you out.

Called fish and game. got transferred to state police captain... when I pointed out the rsa clearly defining the atv requirements and that by law if they take my money for a atv reg then I shall have all the rights as such... or the state has collected my money by false pretense... he is contacting state legal dept and will get back to me Monday...... they want it reg'd but are bowing to the snow mobilers ... we are slow and wide... so what about snow groomers?
I look at it from a rights thing... they charge fees so they can keep up the trails... trails they don't want me on.... fees paid confer rights.. rights denied me.... that's fraud. If I am a atv.... then change the rsa to say so.... if ever ... god forbid.. an accident occurs and lawyers get involved. It will be one of the first things looked at.... was he legally on the trail? We had a girl die just down the street riding a snomobile.. trail gates were not set correcty. Its why the law is definite... this wide , no wider... safety first... or maybe $$$ first.

I live in michigan and the secretary of state made me register my amphicat and scrambler as boats-I even brought pictures in-Its ridiculous what a person who owns a aatv has to go through for a title and registration.

At least as a boat other states must reciprocate the reg. With atv regs nh only recognises vt. If I go to ny or ma or me I must reg in their state... bunch of bs. Boat reg would supercede all of it.... I will see soon.

in nh, we are not recignized as atv, or aatv we are ohrv. and register as other atv. tracked ohrv.s must get permission from land owners to use snowmobile trails unless otherwiseposted, currently, we may use the frail systen at jericho lake atv park, and the trail from littleton nh to wodsville nh.

we must register from july to june as ohrv, and jan thru dec as a boat.

btw, you only have to register as a boat if you use your machine as a boat. ie hunting waterfowl, check with duck cop on when you can load your gun. remember on land your gun must be unloaded and in a case when transporting in an ohrv. or fishing, or just cruising around the lake. i only register my conquest as other atv. i have boat, canoe , and kayaks, that i use for water.. idon't know why they keep sending you to state police. they can enforce laws but fish and game regulates.

check with parks and rec. or game warden for updated list of trails youcan ride with tracks and with wheels.

i guess i should mention that i am i land owner with both water and land trails running through my property

here is a list of numbers helpfull for new hampshire ohrv.fish and game (603)-271-3129. OHRVs in NH, ohrv registry 603-271-4300, bureau of trails for atv and snowmobile trail maps, 603-271-3254, The New Hampshire Division of Parks and Recreation : Bureau of Trails, new hampshire snowmobile association 603-273-0220 New Hampshire Snowmobile Association, new hampshire ohva wheeled vehicles 888-847-1964, , www.nhohva.org. maine ohrv registry 207-287-8000, vermont ohrv registry 802-828-2000.
hope my input can help others, ecause all states need to update their laws.

Lord Icon, I'm afraid I bring you sad tidings. You will get a ticket in Maine--guaranteed. My Max Buffalo is registered as an ATV, as a snowmobile (with its tracks on) and as a boat. If you only use your Max IV as a boat, you'll be fine, but as soon as it is operating under its own power on land, it will need to be registered as an ATV. If you have tracks and want to operate in the winter, it can be registered as a snowmobile, too. The reason for these multiple registrations is that the revenue from each goes to support different things. ATV trails and clubs, snowmobile trails (including trail grooming) and clubs and invasive plant control in lakes. Maine has reciprocity for NH boat registrations if you get an invasive plant sticker, but not for snowmobiles. I'm not sure off the top of my head whether there is reciprocity for ATV's, but if I were you, I'd find out before crossing the border. I'll bet there isn't.

Just read the laws of maine... written well includes all descriptions... no grey area........ also demands $68 from anybody and everybody... in staters pay half.. .
On a brighter side , at least I know why the nh troopers stop so many speeders from maine...... payback.

there is currently one weekend a year you can ride nh, vermont, and maine, nomatter which state you are registered in, unfortunately it was last weekend!!! how ever, some border towns will allow you to enter state without any problems. leftovers from when you could do this legally.

So did you get it regitered yet? My MaxIV is regitered as an OHRV, I registered it in Hudson with no issues...On a side note, did you get your tracks yet? I'm loving the tracks in this snow (I have the older factory rubbertracks). Driving through 16 inches of snow and going over 3 foot snow drifts is pretty cool!
