  • harbor freight winch with wireless remote

i got that harbor frieght winch and have my plow hooked to it, but the winch does not stop and start on command, it goes another few seconds after you let off the button , this is a problem with the plow on there, any way to stop this? i dont remember my truck winch with wired remote doing that

Mine does the same thing! If you, or anyone out there, figure out how to change that w/o losing the wireless remote, I'd like to know how!!

I dont have one to know for sure but it seems if the wireless remote is causing the delay, you should be able to run a wired remote and still keep the wireless one. You could wire it with a quick disconnect plug near the winch for when your not plowing and want only the wireless one.

Other then that are they pretty nice? Do they have power in and out or just in. I have cheap portable one made to hook to a ball hitch and only has power in.

        Hi all,
A friend of mine has a Mile Marker winch that does the same thing, they told him it has to do with the relay that is activated by the wireless remote taking a couple of seconds to release. He hasn't been able to fix his so it would quit doing that as long as he uses the wireless.

I was just wondering if someone could post a discription of how to hook up a wired remote on this unit.

The delay is caused by the remote taking time to send the signal. I use the Ramsey 3000 winch with wireless remote. There is rarely a very slight delay from starting and stopping and you would normally not notice. Just another good example that you get what you pay for between Ramsey and Harbor Freight.

I am building mine on a budget. Mine will pull you out just the same as a $500.00 winch. Id rather spend the cash saved on tires.

I agree with the budget build until safety becomes an issue... not doubting pulling power, but if you have ever HAD to shut a winch down and it won't, things can get a little hairy if not worse. Would use extra caution with it. Is it consistantly delayed and predictable or is it random?

One question about the wireless remotes, HOW DO YOU KEEP TRACK OF THE REMOTE ? i would just use a wired controler with maybe an exstention if it is really needed. just my two cents.

I just bought one, and in my opinion its JUNK. I'm glad I saved the receipt. First time a tiny bit of water splashed on it the other day, it was DOA, no workie. And when it did work there was a delay when you pushed the buttons before it started or stopped. I'm going to have to spend a bit more i'm afraid.

I've got a couple of Max with wireless remotes. I keep them with the key in a small waterproof case. I have not had the problem with the delay. Maybe I just don't notice it.

In my case the winch got a few droplets of water, not the keyfob remote. I too, keep the remote in a dry spot. it really annoyed me because it was the first time I really needed the winch. Its back working now because it apparently dried out, but I dont feel I can trust the winch if a minor splash like that kills it. Maybe I got a bad one?
