  • Chain maintenance, de-grease or no?

Hi, so I have my motor out (and probably trans soon too) replacing all my bearings, and I will have all my (roller) chains off. I was wanting to give my chains an oil bath while they are off, but the are filthy. I was wondering if I should blast em clean with break cleaner and then submerge them in oil, or oil them how they are and hope grit doesn't get in, orrrr? Thanks!

My chains were nasty enough that I'm changing the fresh kerosene from my parts washer after soaking them.

Black I could live with, it was all the crud was clogging the pump on the parts washer that I couldn't.

If you take the cheapest home HVAC air filter that fits your washer, and lay it in the bottom then you can just lift it out and chuck it when it gets all crudded up.

              Thanks for the tip.

I was trying to figure out some kind of additional filtration due to all the the crud that's coming off my old Argo parts.
