  • 6x6-4x4.....

    Hi all,
I was watching those video in chit-chat....

It made me wonder if anyone has ever tried just running 4 tires on their 6x6?

    I know, that's not what they're for..........

But, I could see times, when, by doing that, a person could run much taller tires, and get over differing terrain better........
I'd just wonder about frame and body stresses.....

    Any thoughts?

Ygmir' I have never seen anybogy head out on 4 wheels but I have seen machines come home on any nomber of missing wheels or flat tires. John Schwab has a movie where his max ii runs in and out of a creek with the back left axle bent and the wheel removed

Ygmir-Just for giggles one day I took off the center tires off off my Max II and went for a ride, it would not steer, rode terrible and I did not even try to float it. It looked cool though! I rode for miles and miles missing the right rear tire at the Badlands, I wasn't going to give up any ride time that day! I would not advise doing that regularly, it made some hill climbs quite unpredictable.

Gee Mat if my memory is right Mr Schwab lost a windshield on a tree in a creek in Ohio at the Ledges. He must have more money than I thought.

              Well,
I was wondering, seems not so good an idea.........I just thought, if the center rims were off, a person could put much taller tires on without them hitting eachother......for certain applications, that is.......

Most all 6x6's have the tub that hangs over the tires,,and will prevent much bigger tires from fitting also,,,,I have read where guys have used a heat gun too help re-clearence the tubs slightly.

I just recently aqquired an Argo BigFoot with the 25" tires on it,,,only clear the tub by 1" or so.

                    Hi Philip,
Yes John lost a windsheild at the Ledges ride and a few others... If you look close in the last few videos he has been riding with a cracked windsheild. Maybe we should find him a glass friend???

John's had a bad run of windshields

I would've loved to have seen the one he stuck his head through, safety glass like car window glass, not laminated windshield.. It shattered into tiny pieces, and gave him as many tiny cuts. Enough to cover his face in blood. He astonished some fellow riders until he got to a place to clean up
