  • Rear winch mounting ?

I just got my first Argo. Its a 1999 Response. I want to mount a winch on it and was thinking of mounting it to fit in the rear receiver for the trailer hitch. I would get a drop receiver and turn it upside down to raise the winch up. WOULD THIS WORK ?
    Thanks

Anything sticking out of that hitch receiver will tend to get you stuck. In steep angles like ditch or creek, it will want to dig in.

The receiver should be strong enough if it is mounted to the frame inside the tub.
Problem is in deep mud or water your winch could be submerged.
I mounted mine on the back and use it a lot ...works great.

I would put it higher, like up above the Body Band, but for as often as you would need it, maybe a quick connect to the hitch would work for ya. Mounting it while stuck might involve some digging though.

This is how my winch is mounted.

Hey Cougar... is there any chance you have a photo of what's inside the body as far as how it's attached? I'm intrigued with your set-up.

            Thanks!

Here's how I've done mine. I had to install a frame anyway to cure the dreaded saggy fenders so I tied front and rear winch mounts in with it. Front one goes down to frame similar to the standard factory mount, rear will have an external brace down to tow hitch.

I've also fitted a plastic conduit front to rear with the winch cables running through it, this will also carry the wires from a dash mounted control switch.
