  • Argo Bigfoot vs Max IV

Hey guys I know this has been discussed to death in here but I am looking at two different used machines (argo Bigfoot or max IV) and am just hoping for experienced input about both models and what to expect for performance and maintenance. They are both over five hour drive and I do not have option to drive both and no one in my area has either as well to test drive. So here it goes:
First is a 2000 Max IV with 18 Briggs 26 inch tires, heated cable, less 100 hours and in very good shape. Asking price $5000
Second is 2001 Argo Bigfoot with 18 Briggs less then 100 hours with two sets of tires and tracks all in good condition. Also has wind shield, outboard mount and additional bottom plate. Asking $6900

    Questions:
What do you think about price of both machines?
And general thoughts in regards to what I should look for or consider with machines over ten years old?
    Any advice would be helpful!

Between these 2 machines it will be a tossup.I have a 2003 BF and love it ,that being said I would probably learn to love the Max IV also. The only advice I can give you is do some internet research, make your mind up which one will suit you better and which one you like the looks of better and go buy it.Everything in the maintenance category for both machines is very straightforward and simple.Look for the obvious wear though, mismatched tires, torn seat cushions, inner tub full of debris, and anything that is Jerry Rigged would put me off. Good Luck on either machine,Eddie

      Eddie,
Are the back seats of your bigfoot large enough for two children or average size adults? That is the one reason I am looking at the Max is for the second bench seat.

      Thanks

Both machines are fine machines. Both are very capable, but also very different. The MaxIV is rear heavy with the trans and motor stacked in the rear. The Argo is front heavy with motor and trans under the hood. This weight distribution will make them handle and act differently. The Max will be a little faster, and the Argo probably has a tougher/thicker lower tub.........Add that to the different style transmissions, and it boils down to personal preference.

I would highly recommend showing up at a group ride and checking out all the machines there...drive them and see what YOU like.
This would be a great one to attend. http://www.6x6world.com/forums/6x6-a...23-2013-a.html

Both machine lack abundant leg room, and the Argo rear seats are sideways. Much better suited for kids comfort than adults.

I love my Max IV. I only have the 16 in it....for now, but I rode 4 full size adults plus a kid in it on Friday night, and it didn't miss a beat. I know a guy about to sell a 2001 tracked Max IV with a brand new camo upper on it as well as a complete rebuild and service. It just needs a few finishing touches before its ready, but will be a complete turn key machine when sold. All it will need is someone to take the sticks and take it out in the bush. I am sure it could be had for much less than the Argo you speak of, and with the money you would save you could buy a new set of 26x12x12 tires on k-locks if you really intend on taking the tracks off ever. Pm me with your location if you would be interested and I will give you a name and number for the guy.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

One way to think of it is in the way I heard it. The Max is more of a play machine and the Argo is more of a workhorse machine. I have a Max IV and love the heck out of it. I'm sure that you will enjoy whatever you decide to purchase. It's always a personal preference thing, sort of like the Chev versus Ford connundrum that everybody enjoys bantering about. Good luck and have fun with whatever you buy.
