  • Basic Lighting Options

In looking at restoring the Muscateer the existing lights are a Westinghouse 4444 and a 4411.

Based on a quick web search the 4411 style is available, a 35 Watt 4 1/2" bulb. The 4444 seems hard to find (obsolete?) and to be replaced by the 4411. A number of vendors sell a similar part from GE, WH, Eiko, etc. Need to stick to that size to fit the existing holes/rubber seals.

Not looking for anything over the top, but wondering if anyone has alternates/options that are the same size that could run off the simple 12V system. Are the newer halogen/LED's that will fit and provide better lightling? Don't plan on a lot of night driving, but if available... why not upgrade....

On a semi-related note while the rubber surrounds are in OK shape, are these reproduced and available ?

I was just looking at LED 4411 bulbs the other day. They are brighter for less current draw than a standard 4411 (A Grote #63821 gives you 900 lumens for about 17 watts with the standard drawing 35 watts and giving about 240 lumens if my math is right). They are a great upgrade because you don't have to worry about your magneto or wiring, simply because they draw less power. Don't switch to higher current bulbs than specified by the manufacturer because you can drain your battery if they exceed your magneto output. Also the wiring might be too small to support a halogen or other conventional high output bulb. The downside is the LED bulbs are over $100 each, so probably not worth it for someone not planning on much night driving. I am involved in search and rescue, so I might spring for them when my Attex is done. I will report back with pictures comparing them.

I've done LED lights like this before 4" LED Backup Truck Lights 10 Diode Grommet Pigtails | eBay They are very bright up close, but do not shine the light very far out.

        hi
A while ago there was a member with approx. 1000 lumen each 4 inch flood light with a internet link and even a u tube video . Very good for the application . They are bolt on mount so will not run in the factory grommet mount locations .

The brand of light grommets I used are "truck lite "
IMO I used the sealed beam but the lack of suspension does blow them in a short period eg months .Halogen bulbs would work but probably not 4 that long due to filament and they are not water tight .

Great idea about led 4 inch direct replacements even if they r very low on power

Thanks for the replies. Will review some of the options and add it to the mix. Without an engine decision yet, the whole power system us still up in the air...
