  • How do you find a decent mechanic?

I took my Terra Tiger TT-10 into the shop last Monday because it was running rough and bogging down, hoping they could tune the carb and check the compression for me and that would do the trick. I called them yesterday to find out if they had made any progress, only to have them tell me that they did some carb repair work and now they couldn't get it to fire at all! I can't even get the carb to pull fuel into the cylinder now, and I'm fairly sure they've trashed the whole carb. Now what? It's not like I can go to walmart and buy a new carb! Any ideas???? HELP!

It helps when you add your location to your profile, so those in your area can respond!

Some of the best mechanics i have met are farmers, if you know anyone. If you are in a city, possibly a good lawn and garden shop. Best option is to read info on line and learn to work on it yourself.

I guess a location would be helpful. I'm in Southwestern Pa. Just south of Pittsburgh. Sorry, I'm just pissed at the fact that they screwed my machine up. I looked all around my area and took it to an authorized Allis Chalmers service center. Maybe that was my mistake. I just hope I don't wind up having to look for a new carb.

I agree with groundhog. It's best lo learn and do it yourself. I'm still not the best motor guy, but with the help of my fellow forum members, I sure know a lot more than I used too. Get your machine back, throw it on the trailer, and see if somebody will give you a hand at the Ashtabula ride coming up. If they just messed with the carb, I bet someone could have it good in no time.

            hi ,
The golden rule as why it will not go
            fuel
            air
            spark
            mechanical failure

            The other golden rule
Mechanical items only fail from 4 situations
** lack of maintenance [every [no exceptions] item needs a maintenance schedule ]
**the idiot working on the item [poor knowledge and or attitude ]
            **the operator abuse
            **poor design

Mechanics need to be confident in there abilities and admit when they are at the limit of there knowledge [refer to another workshop etc ]
They also need to be thorough but not microscopic in detail
eg report all items to customer prioritize the jobs and quote as required

Check fuel pump ,needle and seat in carb and float level on that motor and general, lines ,tank for corrosion etc .I am not familiar with that specific engine

Did you bring a 2 stroke to a mower shop? May have been better to have gone to a sled shop, though they may shake their head as to why you're running that antiquated set up.
Best bet is to bring it up to Ashtabula and someone will have experience with that carb. engine set up, and you'll get to ride with what seems to be atleast 25 other machines

The only thing I can add is that you need to learn to work on your own machines.
