  • new to aatvs, have some questions for the seasoned veterans.

Hello. I am looking at getting an older argo or something of the like in the near future. i have herd to stay away from non splined axles.aside from that(which i believe ended in 88?) what are other things to look for when buying an old(possibly decrepit) aatv.or other years/ models to avoid. and any other info you could spare.

chains, obvs, and condition of drivetrain. but im sure theres more.

    second point.
i am asking for help searching the vast plains of alberta, and the mountains of bc.
for any old aatvs, sitting around that look unused.i have been told, many people get in over their heads, and are willing to part with a 'money pit " for cheap , or free due to many reasons, including lack of need for the aatv itself. i am hoping to pick up for free or cheap to build a project argo. but i am willing to spend on the right machine. (or if anyone knows a guy who knows guy.) please email me kaelikhaos@gmail.com with either a street name, address, or phone number where i can meet the owner would be great.
thanks cant wait for replys. one step closer to mounting my own beast.

If you live in a remote area you may consider a pull start on your motor. Meny motors over 20hp do not have a pull start due to the high compression. If you battery dies you'll want to be able to pull start your motor.

Backup starting is nice, pull start can be added to 16 - 23hp vanguards for a couple of hundred. 1/2 that if ya go used.
