I have a little Warn winch on my Max II but the control is a twist handle inside. Is there a reason someone would do that instead of a plug and remote control cable like winches on most trucks use? Personal preference? I'd like to switch it over to a remote cable, just like on my truck, it makes way more sense to me than sitting in it to work it and more versatile as well. Probably safer too. Just looking for anything I might have overlooked. Thanks.

I think you may find that if you have the heavy duty twist control you will not have a relay pack. A normal remote will not take the load of the winch motor which can be up to 100 amps.
you can buy reversing relays off ebay listed under winches, one of thses and a light duty remote will do the trick.
Check yours first to make sure you don't already have one. -
