  • Hydraulic Brakes

I want to install a set of hydraulic brakes on gizmo upon reassembly. I'm thinking about using items intended for the go cart community but don't know anything about what's available. Will this Master cylinder actuate two separate calipers? It appears to have two "input" plungers and two ports to plumb out to cylinders.

Not sure what the mechanism protruding from the front on one side is all about though. Can't seem to find any previous threads on this subject. A little help please. Thanks.

I would find a used motorcycle set up. Maybe cheaper to find a good used one from a bike than buying a new cart one.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

I don't know about that deal, I'd say stay away from that Chinese stuff. it all comes down to bore size of the master cyl and the calipers Your gonna be using.

That looks like it would work well. There is a switch on the side. Maybe for brake lights or low fluid? What did you find for calipers?

Thanks for all the quik replies. Have not begun investigating calipers yet. Also, haven't committed to this particular Master cyl. Just wanted to verify that there are master cyl's that can operate two calipers at a time first. Any recomendations (manufacturers) of non-chinese stuff? I'm ALL for not using ANY of that if avoidable. Looks like I have lots more homework to do,lol. Brake lights, more bling,I like it.

There absolutely are, Joe. Most late model sport bikes have dual front calipers and have a single actuating cylinder. Are you looking for a foot pedal, or a handle on the lateral? It doesn't much matter, because you can simply rig a foot-operated lever to work an off-the-shelf (or off-the-bike) hand lever. Check out what Don did. It's a BFD.

Here's an ebay auction for a set of calipers off a 'Zook as an example. The reservoir's missing from the picture, but you get the idea.

              Another fancy set:

Just remember that your reservoir fill-point for these particular set generally has to be the highest point in the system.

I bought a used set of Suzuki front brakes on ebay (GS 750, I think). They work great. I used the original park brake lever to actuate the master cylinder from the GS. There should be some pictures in my gallery for the BFD.

Here's a good shot of that setup. Maybe contact Mark to see where he sourced the components; they almost look like they were made for this application.
