  • cooling fan

I got two cooling fans from a ford truck out of my brother in-laws junk yard. Would like to install one of them in my maxll. I hooked each fan up to a battery. I get nothing from either fan. My question is, am I missing a component? Something that should be between the fan and the battery that turns it on?

you should be able to just touch the wires to a good battery and have them turn on. straight up , work or no worky

That's what I get for going to a junkyard. Thanks very much for your reply.

Some fans may have brushless motors and won't work with direct wire connection. These usually have three wires coming off the motor. If yours has two then it is likely toast.

My fans have three wire's. Is there anything I can do to make them work?

You would need a controller that is able to energize and de-energize the wires fairly rapidly and in the right order. The controllers are out there but not a cost effective thing for what you're trying to do. Go back to the junkyard and find some fans that have only 2 wires instead.

Thanks, I will take another look. I did find one on line at CFR performance. It is an 8"flat blade that is reversable. For only $38.99. It should be all I need!

What are your plans with it?

Another thing... When positive-negitive electricity is shot through a three-wire motor without the controller it often burns out the motor. Only a two-wire motor can be hooked up directly to electricity. A three-wire motor needs a controller.

I plan on mounting it on my engine cover to help cool (expel) heat from the motor. I saw a set up like it several times in the gallery. I think CBASS has this set up. I don't drive her much in the summer. I took her out on a hot day and I over heated. had to remove engine cover to get home.

I see. Can't have that. I've never ran into that problem myself. But if I do, I now know how to fix it. Thanks for sharing. Hope you find the right one.
