  • Neighbor startin trouble!

Yep, she called the township on me after I already talked to her. She said someone is tearing up the dirt road by spinning around on it. I assured her that I am not tearing up the road and it is just some dirt you see thats fresh when I turn around. I told her I don't go spinning around on the road to tear it up. She seemed satisfied until last night I come out my door to shush my dogs that were barking and here is this old codger coming from my pole shed. He starts yelling at me that he's checking out the road and people are complaining. I asked who, and how many and then immediately said oh,it's the lady around the corner right, He said "well and I told him that she needs to stop as she is only singaling me out because of the size of the machine. I told him (who I finally found out is the township administrator) that the 4 wheelers come up every weekend to the lake and are driving like maniacs. No offense people with 4 wheelers but there is a group that comes up and drives them all night long hooping and hollering with beer cans that get thrown on the road after the weekend. Which I clean up generally during the week when I'm out cruising. The admin dude just kept yelling at me and I finally told him he needs to watch. I took it out on the road in front of him and turned it around. He agreed it does make a mark but it is not deep like what he has seen the four wheelers doing. He agreed it is not me. Wow, I moved to the country to enjoy the things that I should be able to (and being a mature 56 year old) I don't go tearing things up. I do respect the woods and the roads very much so. Well, just venting, some people aren't happy unless the bitchin.

Sounds to me like you didn't move far enough "to the woods". "To the woods" to me means you didn't buy a place where anyone has the ability to tell you what you can and cannot do.

You need to be the guy they call when their kids get the car stuck, or the water heater quits, or there's a snake on the porch railing (yes, really), or there's a tree ready to fall on their tool shed, or the axle broke in the riding lawnmower, or they need help hauling the new woodstove into the basement, or the pressure tank for the water supply springs a leak, or the back-up generator won't start and it's 96 degrees outside.... I'm sure there' more, but you get the idea. If you're that guy, you spend a lot of time doing neighbor stuff, but if you happen to run up and down the "no ATV allowed" roads testing machines, the neighbors tend to look the other way, even if you've got a two-stroke with tuned pipes.

I had neighbors like that. They complained to the township that my place was a mess. Just so happened, I bought it as a mess and was in the process of redoing everything to make it look decent. After a few times of them complaining, the township figured out who the problem was. They told them not to bother calling ever again.

We moved out to the country, though on a fairly busy highway. I can make all the noise I want! One neighbor has 2-stroke ATVs and numerous straight piped V8's, the other roars around in his Gator all day long. I like where I live now! I fit right in!

              Nubs,
I am the guy doing that. I am the one checking and helping all the older folks around the area. I am the older folk. AND, this gal and his wife are psycho. He is in the country and he has an alarm running across his driveway so if anybody gets near his place he jumps in his car and pulls up to anybody around him and starts yelling. Crazy is not easily worked with!! Some people are just out to ruin everybody else's day. I go out of my way to help people around here and as summer turns to fall, fall turns to winter and winter to spring. I am the one helping pull docks out put docks in and mow their lawn for free because it's too hot for them to be out. God teaches us to turn the other cheek. I have, and like I said I was "just venting".

You can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time.

My parents live in Southern Ohio and have one of those alarms on their driveway too. They have 162 acres and act like they own the entire state. Every time a car drives by they jump up and look to see if they recognize it. I tell them all the time that the "solitude" is making then crazy!

Yes, that is so true. I try to enjoy each day as it comes. It's like one of my favorite songs. Live the next 5 minutes, like it's your last 5 minutes, because the next 5 minutes might not come.

Let me get this straight. You caught some old coot coming out of your barn and he commences to yell at you, on your property, and you let him get away with this? You are a nice guy. That would have wound him up in jail here.
