  • Fire extinguisher ?

Well I was mowing Sunday and I HAD a white 2548 tractor.(note the word Had !)
Well leaves had bult up under the front and when I saw some smoke I went to back up and before I could shut down it went up in Flame's !
The Plastic hood and front lit off so fast that by the time I got a fire extinguisher from the house it was Fully ingulfed and burnt to the ground ! Luckily I got my garden hose and put the Wood's and tractor out by the time the fire department got here. I got some burns on my hands and some nasty smoke in me but I am still here and my property is in taket !!!
But this dose make me think if this was a max or other six x six what would have happened ?
There body's are pretty much like the hood on the tractor. And I must say I Never saw a fire Spread out of control as Fast as I did Sunday !!
That thing burnt to the Ground Fast ! Makes me Definetly want to put a good fire extinguisher in my 6x6 !
Just food for thought here but hope it dose help others !

Wow. Glad you didn't get burned too bad. I've got an extinguisher mounted to the roll cage incase me or someone else on a ride needs it. The mount is all metal and made by Tusk. I got it from Rocky Mountain ATV. it's durable and quick release. I'm very happy with it if anyone is looking for one.
What it lacks in ground clearance it makes up for with traction.

I know of a person that had a Terra Tiger with the molded in gas tank that leaked, started it up and poof an instant fireball.I'm pretty sure that lawsuit cost AC some money. Maybe a fire extinguisher wouldnt of helped, but it sure couldnt of hurt either.

Its like one of those thing's you Never think of till your watching you rig melt to the ground !
It was an old tractor but I had a soft spot for it as it ran great and was a work horse. I posted this so as to put that little seed in your mind that a fire extinguisher mite be a good little add on ?
Cause ya never know till it happens !

I keep meaning to get a roll bar mount extinguisher now I have a roll bar but never did. Thanks for bringing this up.

Too bad about your old tractor, maybe you can make something else out of it now.

Ironically and sadly I just saw last night on the local news a report on a teenage girl that had passed away that was in a Polaris Ranger that caught on fire. They showed a picture of it and only the frame was left. I don't know the details, but I am going to put a fire extinguisher on the center bar of the aluminum hardtop on my Conquest and my Ranger.

Most of the roll bar mount ones are very small, I don't think that is enough.

                    Ideas on size?

Maybe 2 small one's ? The idea is if there within reach you stand a better chance to get a Small fire out Before it gets to be a Big fire !?
If I had one close at hand I would still be mowing my grass !
Time is the Key here but also size dose matter.

Sorry about your tractor, that stinks. Good that your ok. Yes,fire is bad news. In our instance add being [I]exactly[I] half way across a small body of water when disaster strikes.

An uncle of mine had a motorhome that sprung a fuel leak. He was driving down a dirt road and noticed a little smoke so he stopped and got everyone out of the coach.

That was all the time they had. If he had tried to get to his fire extinguisher he would be dead. Just wanted to throw out there the idea that you save the people then fight the fire.

In the picture of the aftermath you can see two axles and an engine in a little bit of burnt twisted metal.

Found one larger bottle so I mounted it in so anyone can see it and grab it quickly. Lots of air flow so it wont get hot. Seemed everywhere I placed it in seating area it got it the way ans I am NOT moving my beverage holders

My two smaller bottles didn't work out.
